Free tour to Tabarca

New Tabarca, or Tabarca, is the smallest inhabited island in the Mediterranean, the first nature reserve in all Spain, declared a historic-artistic complex for the beauty of its walls and heritage, a special protection area for birds and a place of interest community by the European Union, the island of a thousand names, inspiration for artists and poets, protagonist of film shoots, a paradise with an island´s shape. Tabarca is one of the prides of Alicante, locals and visitors fall in love with it thanks to its charm, its protection of the marine environment with a dreamlike aquatic flora, a snorkelling paradise; its seafood cuisine and, of course, its sunsets.

However, if we look back a few centuries, it was just the opposite, the Alicante´s nightmare. And, it is that, although Tabarca has always been linked to the sea, its history is marked by misfortune, by the scarcity of resources, by smuggling, by the corsairs and pirates who inhabited it and who took advantage of it to constantly attack the province of Alicante. A cursed island that nobody wanted to inhabit until the end of the 18th century, with the exception of the most feared corsairs of the Mediterranean, such as the Red Beard brothers, Dragut or Cachidiablo.

Join us to learn first-hand the exciting history of this island of just 30 hectares. Only 30 hectares, which hide centuries of history and legends worthy of any pirate novel or movie.

Without a doubt, Tabarca gains in charm when you discover its enigmatic past.
